Description: A view of the crowd during President William McKinley's visit to Grant's birthplace, the Grant Memorial Building, at the Ohio State Fair, Columbus, Ohio. Grant remained widely popular after his death in 1885, and supporters transported the cabin he was born in to Cincinnati for display by the Ohio Valley Centennial Exposition along the banks of the canal. In 1888, Columbus resident Henry T. Chittenden brought the cabin to Goodale Park, and in 1896 the home was brought to the Ohio State Fairgrounds where a pavilion was constructed around the house to protect it from the elements. Two men are seated near the front door of the cottage that houses the Grant Cabin, the tiny structure where Ulysses S. Grant was born in 1822 in Point Pleasant, Ohio.
